How many bands could boast that they had more disc deal attempts among days of their 1st live rendition than many bands obtain in a lifetime of trying? Not many. And first in line amongst them would maximum certainly be the potent White Lies, who tin likewise multiplication the applause of being appointed for 4 pretty major manufacture awards in their debut year, including either the Q Awards and the NMEs Best New Band 2009.
Death and Fear of Flying
To Lose My Life is dark and romantic (in the poetic sense), with all the danger and agree of a sparkling moonlight night. Think wolves roaring at the moon. The anthems shriek to mind a glittering series of muted colours [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shades of silver and gray that hark back to one 80s penchant for cheesy synth rock and deep lower register vocals. Moody and intense [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this album is also bizarrely uplifting, with power and pace that heave the starry melodies to nearly epic proportions.
The war theme continues in Fifty on our Foreheads. It starts slowly with yet more metaphors of that night period, lone wolf ilk. Then intense warfare imagery meets those soaring vocals for McVeigh sings his conscience into the late night sky. Its weapons grade power.

Doctor Who?
Its a little disastrous namely EST has a bass line namely sounds remarkably like the theme tune from Doctor Who. Maybe its meant to be like that, who knows? Get further it whereas, and rapidly, because EST is maybe Indie Suites favourite track on the album. It shows more variation in its composite chapters that any other track, and it shows off everything large almost the White Lies to a tee: blasting upper enrol vocals [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a dingy and risky feel, driving percussion, powerful mid-sections and d
A Place to Hide namely a deliciously uplifting and energising alley. Its got catchy mini melodies, despite a tinny synthed refrain, and showcases the necessity power and range of McVeighs vocal. Frantic guitars, interrupted tempi and a flowing, fleeing chorus, combine in this danger-fuelled adrenaline rush of a pathway.
Unfinished Business and To Lose My Life, the other 2 early singles from the album, prove that the White Lies can do melodies, elemental ones at that, which makes those occasional humdrum verses all the more bizarre and out of place. Also problematic is the heavy reliance on synthesisers; it can make otherwise wealthy melodies sound hollow, heartfelt lyrics feel clichéd and worn. However, it is also part of the make up of the White Lies sound, which looks behind to the tinny Romanticism and strapping vocals of the 80s. So, taken in context, it works.
The gifted Death opens the album with the promise of pace in its beginning bars. The songs notion, being scared of suddenly falling whilst flying in the sky is an apparent reference to the White Lies first incarnation, Fear of Flying. "Death" then is an apt path to start this current debut. Its repressed also, ahead belting into its chorus. As the booming baritone of guide vocalist Harry McVeigh approaches into the upper registers it takes on a volume and urgency that pedals the song and functions regularly in the more powerful tracks on the album.
So what’s all the fuss about? Their debut album To Lose My Life have to be something pretty special to warrant all this hype, right? Lets take a closer see.
