Rays are periodically thought flat-sharks because they are also apex predators.
Found entire approximately Australia from freshwater rivers in northern Australia to depths of over 1000 metres off the Continental tilt, the new species comprise several endangered or critically endangered animals.
Why Sharks and Rays are Endangered
Rays are generally smaller,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but an new species, the Freshwater Whipray (Himantura dalyensis) from Northern Australia, grows to over 1.2 metres broad, possibly larger, a very colossal animal because river systems.
Co-authors of the 50 separate papers included 9 Australian scientists, with others from Brazil, Germany, Malaysia, South Africa, New Zealand, France, Japan and the America.
The Ecological Importance of Sharks and Rays
Specimens of the new species were minutely likened to closely-related species, and we used detailed morphological,Health Problems in Preemies Premature Infants at H, meristic (tooth counts and vertebral counts), and molecular message to confirm that they are in fact new species.
Team membership, Dr William White,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said the project timing coincides with the second edition of Sharks and Rays of Australia (CSIRO Publishing, forthcoming 2009),Hybrid Embryos Planned Human And Animal Embryo Res, by Peter R. Last and John D. Stevens, so that every species has a prim name.
Sharks and rays are important in the ecosystem for they are typically apex predators at the top of the food chain. Their removal has serious waterfall effects which ambition inspire the whole ecosystem, Dr White said.

International Project to Identify Fish at Risk
Dr White said inquiry of DNA sequences was one technique secondhand to separate closely narrated species.
Most of the major shark and ray taxonomists had some involvement in this project, Dr White said.
Although Australians led the research project, they were not solo.
Sharks are top-level predators, and Australians are especially conscious of the perils of sharks approximate waterfronts. Why protect them?
The endangered Maugean Skate - Has one exceedingly alley delivery, and scarcely survives off the south-western peak of Tasmania. Many current category had been listed, yet with sketchy details, in the 1st version (1994) amended along Dr Peter Last, the new project's crew governor.
Take them away and what does it mean for the rest of the ecosystem? We cant understand feasible implications unless we know what species were dealing with.
In two years, scientists with CSIROs Wealth From Oceans National Research Flagship, have named a third of Australias and approximately a tenth of the earths shark and ray species.
