Many homes built on mounds and mountains were swept away by landslides. A mountainside collapsed in an village and pushed a parked passenger train and the station and countryside structures into the sea underneath. There were nearly 900 people annihilated as a result of these landslides.
This normal catastrophe, also known as the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, had a magnitude of 7.9 apt 8.4 aboard the Richter scale. The epicenter of this quake was situated south of Tokyo approach Oshima Island in Sagami Bay. Numerous aftershocks occurred with epicenters pinpointed among the beach of Sagami Bay and southern Boso Peninsula.
A tsunami was generated and waves up to 30 feet hit the shores of Oshima Island, Izu Peninsula and Boso Peninsula. Homes were flattened and flash overrunning occurred. Over 150 people died as a result of the tsunami.

Many people boarded boats in Yokohama berth in mandate to quest refuge yet they were not aware of fuel seeping into the water. As the fires spread to the berth, the oil caught fire and many ships did not make it to the open sea.

Oshima Island is composed of lava and volcanic rock so it didnt experience ground class alterations or extreme shaking. On the additional hand, Tokyo and Yokohama are built on softer taint deposited by rivers and with this instability; there was heavier ground shaking and damage.
