How heavily do you bleed with your periods? With this question, keep in mind that a little blood goes a long way. By this, I mean that it takes a very small amount to look dramatic. The average total blood loss for a whole normal period is about 30 to 40 ml. That really is not a great deal. In someone who has heavy periods lasting about ten days, they might lose a total of 80 ml. So a useful guide can be to ask yourself how often do you need to change soaked (and I do mean “soaked”) tampons or pads daily? Do you need to change bedding because it gets bloodied? Are you passing big clots?
How regular are your periods? Do you have a predictable four-week (28 day) cycle? Or is it predictable, but more like every five weeks? Or do you really have no idea when to expect a period, and have to carry sanitary protection with you all the time "just in case"? |
