A recurring theme in Lenzi&rsquo;s work is of people stumbling into situations they don&rsquo;t quite understand and so it proves here. Though the film plays on the fear created by the Manson killings, Barbara seems more than capable of dealing with her guests. <br />Their hippie mobile runs out of petrol and they stop at a house in the country. Nobody answers the door so they enter the garage and help themselves to petrol. Barbara (Irene Papas), the lady of the house <a href="http://www.kicksthe.com/jordan_cool_grey" target="_blank" class="postlink">cool grey 9</a>, is home though and she confronts them. Initially afraid she changes her mind and offers them food. She remains nervous though. A man keeps phoning to find out where she is. <br />DVD company Shameless Screen Entertainment have been busy releasing long neglected genre films. The pick of those released so far include <span style="font-style: italic">Who Saw Her Die? </span>(Aldo Lado 1972)<span style="font-style: italic">, </span>a giallo starring former 007 George Lazenby <a href="http://www.kicksthe.com/air_jordan_5_v" target="_blank" class="postlink">jordan 5</a>, <span style="font-style: italic">The Designated Victim </span>(Maurizio Lucidi 1971)<span style="font-style: italic">, </span>a thriller loosely modelled on Patricia Highsmith&rsquo;s <span style="font-style: italic">Stranger on a Train </span>(Alfred Hitchcock 1951), and Umberto Lenzi&rsquo;s giallo <span style="font-style: italic">Oasis of Fear </span>aka <span style="font-style: italic">Dirty Pictures.</span> <br />Umberto Lenzi Directs Oasis of Fear <br />Shameless Screen Entertainment have tracked down the English dub of <span style="font-style: italic">Oasis of Fear</span> and delivered a new cut of the film. However some scenes were never filmed in English so the film briefly switches between dialogue tracks. Afraid of being alone she asks Dick and Ingrid to stay the night and the games begin. Barbara and Dick seem to be taking a shine to other, much to Ingrid&rsquo;s distress. Later it becomes clear just why Barbara needed them to stay. <br />Carefree young couple Dick (Ray Lovelock) and Ingrid (Ornella Muti) try to fund a trip to England by selling pornographic magazines to tourists, as well as nude photos of Ingrid and audio tapes of them having sex. Lenzi is probably best known for <span style="font-style: italic">Cannibal Ferox </span>(1981), his rather lame contribution to the 80&rsquo;s cannibal movie trend, but <span style="font-style: italic">Oasis of Fear </span>is much more fun, with a catchy theme tune and a beautiful leading lady in Ornella Muti (<span style="font-style: italic">Flash Gordon</span>). <br />As you would expect <span style="font-style: italic">Oasis of Fear </span>has dated but this adds to its charm.
