Pottery dog figurines found in Mexico certainly show dogs of this type. One theory is that the these dogs lived wild in the Mexican mountains. Despite its size compared to other Chihuahua plush, this particular stuffed animal is a real find and any child would be lucky to call it their own. <br />The first Chihuahua specimens reached America in the late 19th century and these are the ancestors of almost all Chihuahuas here, and in Europe today. They are a good companion that loves attention but don't do well in homes where young children are present. They have been known to snap at children and will typically bite when frightened. Given their small size, they need to be handled delicately, and a young child wouldn't have the experience or maturity to do so. This is not to say, however, that chihuahua's are not good with children; due in part to its size, chihuahua's are often treated differently than a larger breed of dog thus it can make them become untrustworthy.
