As I sit here typing I am also watching the clouds roll in for our next "supposed" snow storm. I am really hoping we will get some moisture out of this one as I am really tiring of sweeping up all of the dirt which has been blowing into the shop on a daily basis.

Last month I promised some information on Pulstar pulse plugs. While I am going to give you a small snippet of information about them today

I currently do not have any test results. It seems that once again I am fighting an uphill battle to acquire and install a product that is being touted as a fuel saving and performance improving new technology. I ordered a set which I planned to install in our PT Cruiser shuttle but the plug design is just slightly shorter than what is needed and we did not have a deep socket with thin enough walls to properly install them. So I am moving on to plan B which is to install them in my 2006 HHR. I expect to have some test data by next month's newsletter to share.
But just what is a Pulstar pulse plug?
This patented sparkplug design uses a built in capacitor to create a more powerful spark which should increase the efficiency of the combustion process. This will increase power and fuel economy if it works as claimed. The technology comes from the plasma research that has and continues to be done at the Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico. I will let you all know just how well the plugs do.
And speaking about fuel economy and performance:

, and that is not good! Surely none of us really believe that the cost is going to stay down at any reasonable level for an extended period; do we? The expanding economies in China and India are putting huge pressures on the global oil supply and there is only so much oil to be had. It is estimated that China will more than double their demand for fuel in 5 years at the rate they are adding to their vehicle population. So I believe we all need to permanently change our view of fuel costs and take a long term view towards what we can do to use less. That means continuing to do those things we were talking about last summer and fall when we were paying $4 a gallon for fuel, such as monitoring engine performance and doing the factory recommended maintenance services to keep our vehicles running at peak efficiency. I also think we should get into the habit of reviewing our driving needs and planning trips to minimize our driving. Creating those habits now will put money in our pockets later as the price of fuel creeps up.
And I will continue to look for and attempt to test new technology in the quest to help all of us achieve the best fuel economy we can. Electric and fuel cell vehicles probably hold the long term key to the problem of diminishing oil supplies
