"Actually, there are three almost simultaneous productions going on this fall."
Now there is another lie being propagated in a way, that it is continually front and centre. So in Age of Arousal each character has a totally different sexuality. There is one highly sexed character who’s always been like that since childhood. There is one character who’s really not interested at all, and she is the one who embraces chastity. There’s a gay woman and there is a woman who really will never figure out what her unusual sexuality is. It’s just too hard to find it at that time. Then there is Rhoda who would likely be bi-sexual and who is confused whether or not she is bi and has had an earlier experience which is not going to be continued. That’s one of the questions in the play. So everyone has a different sexuality and that was really something I wanted to explore in the play. There is not just one. There are many different variations on sexuality and they are very individual.”
“In spite of all talk now, there is plenty of it still. We pretend that we can talk about sexuality but really I don’t think it is that way. Now there is a lot of what seems to be free talk about sex on television but what’s rare is that people rarely talk about not wanting to have sex now. The assumption is that we are all upscale randy all the time. That’s just not the case.
“Oh yes, it is totally great. There are worse things than travelling around visiting your productions. There is one in Philadelphia which opens just after the one in Toronto and in Philadelphia it’s being produced at The Wilma Theatre (directed by Blanka Zizka). Then there was one production (directed by Deborah Cottreau that recently finished) at the University of Windsor. I have been in contact with three different directors Air Jordan 2011, three different sets, costumes, casting. I was not involved so much in the Windsor production but I have been involved in the Philadelphia production so I will be going down there to be in rehearsals in the middle of the Toronto production (directed by Maja Ardal). Each of the three shows is completely different air jordans 6, casting and sets. I don’t know how different the approach will be but I am hoping that even within the different productions that the essential nature of the play is in the script and then you can do what you will.”
Really, we could be talking about 2007.
Age of Arousal is set in the Victorian times where acting on sexual libido was taboo.
"It is very contemporary play but it is not a play with a lot of anachronisms so it is not someone comes out and makes a modern joke in the middle, but there is a contemporary flavour throughout it that I hope comes from underneath the period as opposed to sort of “wink wink” on top of the period."
