No matter what any bride says there is a universal truth about bridesmaids dresses: you’ll only wear the dress once. “You’ll wear it again,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], right?” the bride asks, perhaps to make themselves feel better about asking you to shell out hundreds of dollars for it. Remember six-time bridesmaid Adrianna Giuliani whom we spoke to about the bridesmaid dress conundrum a while back? She simply left her bridesmaids dresses in the hotel closets at each wedding.
The site will also carry dresses for the bride too, to outfit her for all the events surrounding the wedding–rehearsal dinner, reception dress (yes, they even have a category for the “little white dress” for the bride who wants to change into something sexier after the ceremony), bridal shower etc.,–basically everything but the wedding dress itself. The site will stick with outfitting bridesmaids and brides for events leading up to the ceremony–pieces that can be worn off the rack and don’t require alterations.
It’s a brilliant idea and I will be not-so-subtly sending this post to my engaged friends.
It seemed like a lost cause, just part of the deal of being a bridesmaid–suck it up and buy the ugly dress, right? Wrong. Rent the Runway Weddings launches on January 18 and focuses on bridesmaids dresses. Badgley Mischka, Robert Rodriguez and Nicole Miller have designed bridesmaid collections that come in up to four styles in up to four seasonal colors exclusively for the site. Whereas Rent the Runway only allows users to rent dresses for a few days at a time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Rent the Runway Weddings offers 8-day rental periods. But the best part? The price. A Badgley Mischka bridesmaid dress averages at over $300. At Rent the Runway Weddings it’s $65.
