Napping may help lower blood pressure: study
Those who take a nap are more likely to have lower levels of blood pressure despite stress,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said a new study in the latest issue of International Journal of Behavioral Medicine available on Wednesday. In the study,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], researchers at Sarah Conklin of Allegheny College in Meadville,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Pennsylvania examined 85 healthy university students,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who were divided into two groups, with one group taking an hour- long nap during the day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the other group having no time to sleep. Both groups were given a mental stress test.
The study found that participants in both groups experienced increase in blood pressure and pulse rates when they took the stress test, but the average blood pressure of those who slept for at least 45 minutes was significantly lower after the stress test than it was for those who did not sleep. The researchers drew the conclusion that a daytime nap of at least 45 minutes may help stressed-out people lower their blood pressure and protect their heart.
"Our findings suggest that daytime sleep may offer cardiovascular benefit by accelerating cardiovascular recovery following mental stressors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," the researchers said in the study."Further research is needed to explore the mechanism by which daytime sleep is linked with cardiovascular health and to evaluate daytime sleep as a recuperative and protective practice, especially for individuals with known cardiovascular disease risk and those with suboptimal sleep quality," they added.
Sleep deficiency is common in the United States, posing a long- term health threat. On average, Americans get nearly two hours less sleep a night than they did 50 years ago, according to background information provided by the journal.
Ibuprofen may cut Parkinson's disease risk
A new study suggested that regular use of painkiller ibuprofen may cut the risk of developing Parkinson's disease,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to Reuters reports. The research findings were published in the online edition of the journal Neurology on Wednesday and later will appear in the print edition on March 8.
The study,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which followed more than 136,000 U.S. men and women for six years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], showed that people who took ibuprofen at least twice a week were 38 percent less likely to develop Parkinson's, a brain disorder that causes tremors and movement problems, compared to those who didn't take the pain reliever so often.
Ibuprofen is sold in the U.S. as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). But the study didn't prove that other NSAIDS, like aspirin or naproxen, could also cut the Parkinson's risk."Our study suggests ibuprofen could be a potential neuroprotective agent against Parkinson's," says lead researcher Dr. Xiang Gao from Harvard Medical School, "Protective effects are seen after taking ibuprofen two or more times a week. That's so-called regular use."
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he also warned that no proof has been found that ibuprofen itself can help ward off Parkinson's,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and said that it's too early to recommend people to start taking ibuprofen to protect against the disorder.Gao said, "We just see an association, not some causal relationship."Besides, regular ibuprofen use has risks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like stomach bleeding and kidney damage.
Combining sneaker classics has been a common habit of Jordan Brand in recent years, and the CMFT series is another example of that work. For the Air Jordan CMFT Air Max 12, Jordan Brand combined the sole of the Nike Air Max 97 with a low-cut version of the Air Jordan 12 (XII). They are available in multiple colors, and like the recently released Jordan CMFT Max 11, have been receiving a favorable response.
