THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Bruins will face Eastern Conference rivals Montreal and Pittsburgh in their upcoming two-game road trip that begins Saturday in Quebec (7:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). The Bruins and Habs are currently [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] 1-2 in the Northeast Division, as the B’s have 48 points to Montreal’s 47. The Bruins have played two fewer games however.
Following the tilt with the Canadiens, the B’s will take on the Penguins in the Steel City on Monday, January 20 (7:30 p.m. TV: VERSUS, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). Pittsburgh leads the Eastern Conference with 56 points, although they will likely be without the NHL’s leading scorer Sidney Crosby who is expected to miss about a week with a concussion.
BUSY B’S: Beginning with Saturday’s game on January 8, the Bruins will play at least every other night through Wednesday, January 26 leading into the NHL All-Star Break. That’s 11 games in 19 days. Of the 11 games, five will be on the road and six will be at home.
HORTON UPDATE: Bruins forward Nathan Horton [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] left Friday’s practice early with “discomfort,” according to Head Coach Claude Julien. He is considered day-to-day and will make the trip to Montreal and Pittsburgh. The ailment limited Horton’s minutes in the third period of the Bruins/Wild game on Thursday night.
50 STRAIGHT SELLOUTS?: If the Bruins sell out their next home game on Tuesday, January 11 against Ottawa, it will be the club’s 50th straight sellout (regular season and postseason, does not include Winter Classic or 2010 Premiere Game in Prague). The Bruins sold out every regular and postseason game during the 2010 calendar year, the first time the organization has done so since the 1972 calendar year.
ROAD TRIP RECAP: The Bruins captured eight out of a possible 10 points on their season long five-game road trip through Florida, Tampa, Atlanta, Buffalo and Toronto last week… The Bruins scored 16 goals on the trip, not including shootouts…13 different Bruins accounted for the 16 goals, as only three tallied more than one goal on the trip… Those three players included two rookies, Steven Kampfer and Brad Marchand… David Krejci was the third, as he potted two goals in the road trip’s opening game against the Panthers… Four Bruins defensemen scored in the January 1st game against Buffalo, which marked the first time in club history four different d’men scored in the same game.
2ND [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] SK8 ANNOUNCED: Beginning the weekend of February 4 and continuing throughout the month, the Boston Bruins Foundation and The [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Foundation for Cancer Care are hosting the second annual "[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] SK8 Challenge" skate-a-thon presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] SK8 Challenge helps raise funds for children and their families who are battling cancer.
Bruins fans of all ages can register to skate at one of the five FMC participating rinks. Each skate date will be a private [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] SK8 event. Skaters can create a personalized fundraising page for family and friends to make a pledge and follow participants’ fundraising progress by visiting [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]sk8.com. Last year, skaters raised more than $130,000.
BRUINS PROSPECT REPORT: The Bruins Communications Staff has created the Boston Bruins Prospect Report, which will be emailed out every two weeks. The Report will contain updated statistical information, news and notes on all players in the Bruins system, as well as a “Prospect Spotlight” section that will highlight two players in a feature article format. The latest report was sent on December 31 and featured Michael Hutchinson and Jared Knight. The next will be sent on January 15.
